COCKSPARRER
i like many people am a fan of cocksparrer, and it is with some confusion that over the last 10 years or so i have watched as the band have played in just about every city in europe and further, but have not even dipped their big toes in london to play a gig.
i cant understand the reasons why, if it is the old 'we're worried about neo nazis attending' then, pooh pooh. because i have been to morcome where there were plenty of 'blood and honour' 'members' (is that what they are called?) mixing along and quite happily ignoring the 'crass' and 'conflict' t-shirts all around them without any trouble, and following that logic there cant be any reason to not play london, so that doesnt seem why.
what about venues size? there are venues that fit 50, going up to venues filling 1000's, so it cant be that either.
maybe the GLC has not taken their name off the music blacklist, oh i forgot there isnt a GLC anymore.
is it the travel distance? well, they've played every other bloody venue in the western world so im gunna knock that one on the head, and they are londoners, despite their record sales probally allowing them to buy and move to nice newly built homes in essex (which seems likely as "the ol' oist'end aint what it was, cor blimey strike a light").
so why? what is stopping them? if the cockney rejects can play the astoria without any trouble brewing (that i noticed) and , if the rejects can also play without their gigs turning into a mass football 'hoolie' brawl then i doubt cocksparrer would suffer from the same fate either. so, unless theres something ive missed, i can see no reason for them not playing the capital, after all didnt they write "london belongs to me"? why do they always miles up north england at a 'festival' when there are thousands of sparrer fans who cant afford 3 nights bed and board as well as a 3 day all arenas tickets, and theres the travel costs, not to mention food and drink. c'mon chaps.
if you know why, tell me! or if you do, then please dont hesitate to let me know because a sparrer gig in london would be a a massive event, the kind of gig london has screamed out for sinse we lost the ramones and their annual visit there has always been a huge ground swell of people who would love to see sparrer in london..."where are they now"... as the song goes.
GOTHS.........WHERE DO YOU START?
Is it me or are goths becoming a paler version (no pun intended) of their old selves? i remember back in the early to mid 1980's when goths first appeared as an off shoot of punk that the look was all puffed up, back combed hair and clothes that made dave vaniun look like a tramp, and they (the blokes) would spend hours doing their make up. and the women would spend hours trying their best to look like lilli munster or morticia adams., with a touch of s&m added, they blurred the lines between male and female perfectly.
Now look at them, the average goth bloke you see slouching down the road looks like hes just lost his favourite action man, he tries no harder than dyeing his mid length hair black in a lank center parting, wears the usual biker jacket, tight black jeans and a 'jesus is a cunt' t-shirt. the female goths hardly even seem to try any harder, maybe a bit of make up but that is it. whats wrong with the goths of today? are they all just lazy bastards or has the influence of satanic metal got a grip on them so tight that it is sucking them into the denim clad world of 'the devils rock music' (yeeeaaahhh!!!). oh, and you, goth, stop looking so bloody miserable you bugger.
SOME REGGAE AND DANCEHALL
Artists have been singing anti gay songs for some time now, yet how can these so called 'batty man haters' keep a straight face, i mean, a man who stands on stage with his hair in shirly temple ringlets, wearing lots of gold costume jewellery and dressing in crotch revealing homo erotic semi naked costumes, with oiled muscles showing through the body revealing clothes really expect to be taken seriously as a hetrosexual? and what about their videos? some of them are so camp they make george micheal green with envy. ive a feeling that it's more than a 'cap' that they want to be putting up a 'batty mans' arse.
so c'mon chaps, out with it (your sexuality, not your knob - or gun for that matter!) coz your songs, well, me thinks that you doth protest too much, i mean, if they hate them so much why do they expend so much energy on the topic? "its illogical captain".
