YET MORE PISTOLS BOOTLEGS?

It seems that the world cannot get enough of yet more bloody sex pistols bootlegs and 'semi-bootlegs' (what ever the fuck they are, are they bootlegs or not?), but for a change there has been a few new ideas the first i came accross was a rerelease of the 'first' pistols lp 'SPUNK', released just weeks before N.M.T.B this is the lp that 'never mind the bollocks' should of been, no 18 track guitar overdubs to muddy up the sound, just the band playing well and recorded at the right time, (i.e before sid) i think that the lp is better than N.M.T.B, the songs are arranged differently and the band just sound...better and not over produced.
the next thing i spotted was a set of four singles lifted off
THE GREAT ROCK'N'ROLL SWINDLE dbl lp which is the point i suppose (swindling fool), but the beauty of the set is the singles covers, they have used lp covers from the likes of jimi hendrix to elton john and 'sex pistoled' them up, great art work, even the company logo has been given the treatment being named 'VIRGIL' records and stuck next to the logo is a picture of virgil off thunderbirds but at first glance it looks like the old virgin label, a work of art if i say so my self, shame they cost so bloody much!
And last but not least is a bootleg single of CRASS, now the irony of this was not lost on me at all, in fact i enjoyed wollowing in it for some time. now, before the band signed a deal with EMI you never ever saw any bootlegs of the band, not in the u.k anyway and so signing to EMI not only lost the fans the 'pay no more than...' from the cover, we also got any rerelease from the CRASS vaults that may possibly make EMI a few quid, and with EMI having no idea of the quality of the bands either!
Take for example byork, (no seriously, take her) her single with icelandic punk band K.U.K.L was rereleased on cd for the same price as an lp despite it only having five or so tracks on it and it not the best record you could of heard, and all the rereleased music on the CRASS label bears the EMI hallmark (oh sweet sweet irony. see also the earlier CRASS posting on this site) and is a big put off to many wanting CRASS records, reducing them to searching out for old second hand records by the label.
now as for the single itself, to be honest it isnt too bad, you can even hear tinges of main stay 1970's punk in the music, recorded in 1979 as a JOHN PEEL session it predates their first lp and it sees the band just before they had perfected their military music style and has some famous songs played in different arrangements and some with different names, its a short record even for a 7in but all in all its not too bad a listen, and if your a CRASS fan you will either love it or hate it and if your not a fan give it a try i expect you will be suprised (ignore the utopian politics).
one more thing, the e.p's cover is a very well made up pastiche of the old fold out covers the band used to wrap their singles in, the only giveaways are the photo of the band inside and the one of the singer on the front, that, and on the back is written "design....a secret" give it away. but its well done none the less.
well it makes a change from the pistols live at winterland rewrapped in a different cover and pumped out as a new recording anyway and its one in the eye for CRASS who made enough money to start with anyway (they outsold records that were in the top 10 pop charts for years) and EMI have too much pompous gits counting money anyway. and they wont give me any of it the tight gits.
