'THE PUNK POLICE' ARE WATCHING YOU

When the email from the reader who called himself 'the punk' arrived, my first reaction was to take the piss out of his uninformative pubescent swearing , but something else was bothering me, and i realised what it was, and that was 'the punk's' recommendation to "go and listen to your 'grandpa punk' you old has been".
now what did 'the punk' mean by that? was he telling me that because someone listens to old punk bands they are too old to be punk and that the only 'real' punk's around listen only to the most recent records released? why cant someone listen to old bands as well as new ones (who i listen to and even by records by, by the way 'the punk'.) telling someone what punk bands or era they should/shouldn't be listening to smacks to me as a very 'unpunk' attitude, why cant somebody listen to bands of various ages? 'the punk' reminds me of those 'guardians of our scene' commonly known as the PUNK POLICE.
These 'punk police' are usually the ones who laugh at (and have been known to use violence against) people who don't want to dress in the latest 'punk fashions' or don't bother to dress punk at all, these people are usually the target of arrogant/ignorant ridicule by people like 'the punk'. sad.
as a finish to this letter i am calling on the likes of 'the punk' and those like him and direct him/them to the great LP by SICK ON THE BUS and onto the track named 'punk police', it is a sentiment that has been around for a long time and has even raged across the mainstream music media in past times, so it is i who consider 'the punk' to be the one with out of date ideas about punk not me, but then again he probably is only 14 years old at most so i can forgive his little heart,
i just hope he dumps the daft idea about what bands you should only listen to, if he did he could open his world to decades of great music, punk has trodden a long and varied path and has left some marvellous records along the way they could discover, or 'the punk' and his ilk could do themselves a great disservice by staying so narrow minded. in other words, the scene doesnt need your types so either wise up or fuck off punk police!
