'GOLF PUNK'...have a word.

I don't know if any or many of you out there are aware of the magazine called 'GOLF PUNK'? for the sake of this post i will assume you dont.
now what do you expect from a magazine called 'GOLF PUNK'? i had no idea what it held in its pages until i looked through it.
and what did i find? well, it seems that this magazine represents the (ahem) 'new wave' of golf players no less. and what a fearsome bunch they are not, instead of articles on golf club membership not being open to these new young bucks or complaints about the dated and outmoded way the golfing establishment run things and how they could do with a shake up- oh no.
what was in the magazine's content was just what i would expect to find in a golfers magazine aimed at conservative (small 'c') golfers. there were the usual 'how to improve your swing' articles, interviews with young and upcoming golfers and adverts for golfing equipment. but what really caught my eye were the adverts for the clothing 'for out on the green', it was no different from the clothes you used to see bing crosby and bob hope wearing at those charity events they held every year (oh how i used to laugh at the rehersed 'spontanious' banter that went on, and how every year without fail sammy davis jr would make his 'use the false eye as the ball to see where it goes' joke- ah, what memories!) sorry, the clothes, yes, they had the floppy tarten hats, the funny baggy trousers, diamond cut jumpers, horrid looking shoes and even 'club wear' like jackets and ties (very punk).
the only difference between this and a retired mans golfing mag was the age of the bloke on the front cover! i also couldnt find an article that could hold me for more than 3 lines. well, at least this 'new wave' are not pretending to challenge the status quo but are openly aiming to embrace it, at least they are honest, not very interesting but honest. but i do question the choice of name, it does seem another example of how the word 'punk' is being attached to everything nowadays.
