the SEX PISTOLS EXPIERENCE and a 'punk rock' boat ride review!

I said i would review a band in exchange for reviewing them in my A4 zine but due to loss of printing access i couldn't, so here is my attempt to review a band i saw a couple of years ago (but because they are still gigging i felt i had an obligation, so here it is).
The 'venue' where i saw them was on a boat, in fact it was the same boat that the sex pistols had used during the jubilee and featured in the 'swindle' film (i was worried about the boats age when i heard, just how old was this tub?, and what with the amount of accidents on the Thames i made sure i had a life belt in my vision at all times, mind you the temperature of the water would of killed me in two minutes, and its not the cleanest body of water i know of either!) and the occasion was the 25th anniversary of the pistols boat trip (i know, an anniversary, but this sounded too interesting to ignore). the area where the pistols played was tiny, there was room for about 6 people to stand and watch. so we went inside and there the bands gear was set up, but the bar would not open until the boat left the jetty despite the desperate banging of some people on the grating covering the bar like madmen.
once it was 'ship ahoy' so was the fizzy pop, there was more liquid in the boat than around it and in no time everyone was pissed. then came the band- the SEX PISTOLS EXPERIENCE, they were a full on sex pistols copy band and at first i had to admit i did cringe when the singer did his 'johnny rotten' stage act, pulling the faces and moves, at least the 'Sid' optioned for the hard growling image as on the 'god save the queen' video. the 'Steve' and 'Paul' had the good sense to keep their stages moves subtle.
at first i sat at the back watching and chatting but after some more drink i found myself singing along and dancing with the rest of the guests and we all sang along to 'anarchy' as we passed Parliament for the first time, then after what seemed like 10 minutes we were on our way back (i have a vague memory of my naked arse hanging out of a window in greeting to a passing pleasure boat full of tourists "we British have a reputation to uphold don't you know!") and the band played the set again, by now everyone was drunk and the whole boat screamed out the lyrics to 'bodies' at the top of our voices as we again passed the houses of Parliament (and graced the watching MP's) Mr Micky Fitz of THE BUSINESS politely 'pushed' his way on to the stage to lead the boats occupants in the choral sing song, the 'johnny' quietly moved to the stages side to watch, bemused and amused! and in no time we were back on Terra firma, swaying from the boat and drink and all singing in hoarse voices. after, i swapped a t-shirt for a zero hour fanzine and a promise to review of the band (i still wear the t-shirt with the pride of a good memory) and as for the band, well if you ever plan on going to see a tribute band then this is the one to see, Ive been to nights of punk tribute acts but Ive never heard a band who sound so like what they are trying to be as the SEX PISTOLS EXPERIENCE do. 10 out of 10 for a good laugh and a good band. i just cant believe that the old tub we were on was the same as the one the real pistols used, it was a tiny crappy old tub that provoked more than one "do you think we will sink?". it must have been 50 years old when the pistols used it.
