FREE ANARCHY WITH THE TIMES 'OF LONDON'

Oh what superb irony and at the same time what choking hypocrisy. i mean fuck me, the Sunday times has only gone and given out the first of a two part CD collection called 'anarchy in the UK, 30 years of punk' (volume one), of course it only contained songs written and/or released in 1976 and 1977, except one track from wreckless Eric made in 1978. part two of the 'two parter' is available next week in case you are interested, it includes 'sham69 and 'stiff little fingers' among others, handy for chucking on when you cant decide what to listen too-not!
the songs picked to be on the CD are ones that anyone with an interest in punk will already have, and if they don't its because they don't like the song or band, after all the 'punk fans' have had 30 odd years to decide what bands and songs they like.
and next week the Sunday times are yet again rebelling and selling free anarchy to the upper and middle classes (and geek collectors) and possibly causing the ground swell of a class war
( ha, as if!). the advert for next weeks part two had a picture on the cover and the same old names could be seen, so expect to hear more of the records you already own (if you buy the paper and CD of course).
this whole thing is a joke, 30 years ago the times was writing articles about why punks should be 'put away' for treason (really) and more subtly than the sun paper (who encouraged its readership to beat up punks for not being patriotic enough, and when 'punk singer' and writer Gary bushell joined them it was with the headline "i used to be red but I'm all white now"), the times also encouraged 'dislike of these threats to the fabric of British society (lots of 14-15yr olds running about with red and green hair-ooh! threatening!) it ran glaringly obviously made up stories about punk rockers doing unpleasant things to old ladies in the street, like push them over, spit on them for no reason, etc etc, yet here we are 30 or more years down the line and they are giving all that away free with the Sunday supplement, its a bloody piss take, but I'm not sure who the jokes on, those who buy it for the music or for the times and enjoy the CD? and to top that on the 12th of this month they gave Joe strummer the cover in one of their many crap supplements, it was an interview with Julian temple about his new film on Joe strummer.
i will leave all this with a quote by ex clash manager on the new strummer film, "its just a film about a public schoolboy made by a public schoolboy, they want to turn him into john Lennon because they need a new john Lennon". so, not a fan of the film then Bernie? still, while i can agree on what he's getting at i can still see myself going to see it!, and don't forget your free anarchy in this weeks upcoming Sunday times (ha ha ha) i love the irony, anarchy to sell the British 'empires' biggest supporter (the old codgers who run the rag still write like we have one at times), whens the two volume free 'crass' CD coming out then Murdock?!
