I'm mis-using that famous song lyric in the header partly because i enjoy being corny and partly because its relevant to this article.
the shops I'm mentioning are reggae ones and the reason is because if you go into one and have a good look around you will find a large 7inch section full of re-released old ska singles, they have been re-releasing the old tunes exactly as they were released in the past, with the same labels on the middle, air bubbles in the vinyl, dodgy pressings, great songs, the lot.
these singles are being pressed up in the back of record shops just as they used to (for those that don't know it (and I'm sure there is some) many record shops in Jamaica were fronts also for record labels and they would press the singles out back and then put them straight on the racks in the shop, it was a way of selling the latest tunes to the competitive sound system scene) and a lot of those old great singles are being re-released (massive!).
so now there is all sorts of hard to get and rarely heard or seen singles that are again out there ready and waiting for you, just like it was 1971 all over again!
and hopefully maybe some of these shit 'third wave of ska' bands will buy some singles and take a few notes maybe, and then maybe write a song that doesn't sound like 10cc or Elvis Costello and that awful 'white reggae' sound (that was so bad that it lasted about as long as an ice cream in an oven!).
But That's not all because there is also a brilliant 7inch singles set that has just been released by Trojan records (yes i said Trojan) who also seem to be back in business, it is a corker of a set that includes some of Trojans 'bestest' singles and is not over priced either (likewise the singles i mentioned above),.
so like the over used lyrics say "gimme some of dat ooooold moon stompin" off down to the record shops and get some of those pukka singles you always wanted.
