whats wrong with punk. no2- BRITAIN.

Before i start i should make it clear that i am referring to the south east mainly and also to the british mainland (irelands time will come), and that's because that's where zero hour is based, but if anyone is happy to put me right if i get anything wrong concerning other parts of the country then I'm happy to receive your emails or comments, same as for number one below.
There is many things wrong with the UK scene but there is only one problem that I'm concerned with now, its the most serious and threatening thing happening in UK punk today and it is not a 'conspiracy theory' either! (well it doesn't look like one to me)
this threat comes not from the bands themselves but from a dangerously small clique of people who call themselves 'promoters' that I'm talking about.
this small little band of ring masters have the scene sewn up nicely, it may even all be the work of only one man for all i know.
but am i the only person to notice that the same bands are playing with the same support act's in the same order at the same venues with the same regularity? I'm sure bands do sometimes choose to play together, that's up to them and good luck to them for doing it, but the situation i speak of is beyond that.
the situation has arisen where unless a band are 'in there' with the right promoter (or people) then they wont get out of the squat gig scene (that's if they want to use the squat scene for gigs, but not every band wants to go that route, nor should they have to) and get to play in decent venues (that's not to be ungrateful to the party squat scene organisers, god bless their smelly socks!), even when a band has had successful records out on well known labels (i don't wish to name bands in case it fucks up their future chance of playing gigs, seriously.) i can think of three bands off the top of my head who have had well selling singles, L.P's, and E.P's on 'big' punk labels yet are not able to get a gig in London.
yet it is possible to see 'band X' and its regular support band/s on a regular basis at a good venue even if they haven't written a new song or made a new record for a while, as long as they are with the right 'people'.
and these 'promoters' (if there is more than one) do seem to favour groups of one flavour only meaning that the styles of music we get to hear are as limited as the number of bands on offer. Its all fine and dandy if you like to hear songs about certain repeated topics from the same old familiar bands, but 'out of the gang' bands who have records out have to play squat 'band rooms' at parties to get an audience in the south east, forced to use the D.I.Y scene for gigs, which only reaches a small number of people, some bands have given up trying to get a gig and have just kept to the D.I.Y scene despite being well known (no i don't mean the fucking levellers) and not being crusties by any stretch of the imagination. the bands are out there aching to shout their messages to us but only a favoured few are allowed to sing it in public, its not just the lyrical content that matters with these 'promoters, its the look and type of sound made that matters as well.
again i have to finish with the same lame old quote for these 'promoters' who are sure to book bands that they know are nice polite chaps who wont attract the police because they said an anti war statement or who are known as 'spokesmen', that might upset some people and ruin the balance and topple the apple cart, after all we don't want any punk band causing any outrage do we? "i want punk bands but no controversy" seems to be the maxim. after all we dont want to risk losing any money. and there seems to be a favouring of bands who are of an extended social 'scene'. excluding those who are "not in the gang".
we the 'punters' as some are calling us are having our music censored for us, keeping some bands going while ignoring others despite having great songs and/or records out. and even if a band did care, how could they stand up and change anything? most likely all the other bands would keep quiet so their regular gigs are not cancelled and them chucked off the band roster.
we the fans and the bands are being blackmailed as to what we can hear and the people doing it are in it for your money only, truly they
"THINK GUITARS AND MICROPHONES ARE JUST FUCKING TOYS"
and if you think that's all that's wrong, then wait..............................................
