THE PUNK 77 WEBSITE, WELL WORTH A LOOK.

I have to start this by admitting that it has been some two or more years since i last looked at the 'punk 77' website, and then it was only one page showing a list of British bands, if you clicked on the name of a band then a potted history of that band would pop up, that was it.
But i must say that i was glad that i hadn't visited the site for so long otherwise i wouldn't of got such a pleasant surprise, the site had totally changed and it now bore more resemblance to a fanzine than many of the other 'punk' websites, and thankfully it didn't have a bright red metallic anarchy symbol next to an advert for a mundane product (unlike certain websites i could mention) consisting of a bikini clad young lady ("punk was the first time women were given a voice and got treated as equals"- j Lydon) brandishing said mundane product.
It has very good graphics and the colour scheme has been kept in the main black and white which suits it. also it carries adverts for gigs and for some reason even has a link to the kerrang radio site, but after what kerrang has said about punk in the past (until they finally realised how popular it is) i personally wouldn't touch kerrang with with a shitty stick, but that is their choice not mine.
Admittedly the website does still lean towards the 77 era but it manages to pull some interesting people and stories out of nowhere that would remain unknown if not for the efforts of the websites 'people' (check out the story behind the skrewdriver/boomtown rats gig) who very smartly avoid the same old 'punk sausage machine' stories, instead coming up with interesting memories from the 70's, and most importantly, it manages to neatly avoid coming across as being part of that horrid punk anniversary machine.
apart from the main 77 portion of the site it has articles and interviews with current bands and carries ads for gigs and has recent photos, keeping up with the current punk bands, new and old.
But the biggest bonus of all is the sense of humour that runs throughout the website, it doesn't preach or moralise, nor does it disappear up its own bum with self importance, its just a good look at British 70's punk (and more) with obvious affection and makes no attempt to hide what it is.
Its just a good website worth spending some time on, unlike some websites that rely on idiots posting daft questions and messages full of swearing and slagging off bands for its own sake ("so and so are not a punk band because blah, blah blah" etc...).
well done punk 77 and good luck in the future, get to the website by clicking on the link below.
