If you are a fan of either THE CLASH or top 'pub rock' (such a lame name)bands like THE 101'er's and EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS etc, then i suggest you go down to your local record emporium and have a rummage in the racks for the total re-release of all of the back catalogue of THE 101'ers.
the band have not only got their one and only LP out again (elgin avenue breakdown)the remix is also out (elgin avenue breakdown remixed) giving you a chance to check them out and see what you think is better (i prefer the original), but if you don't want to splash out £10 for an LP then you could check out the 'new' singles by the band that have now been released (30 years too late). far from being sound-a-likes of 'johnny b good' they are top fast tunes and you will also find some songs that have turned up on later clash records and they also give you a good idea where THE CLASH got some of their lyrical content and ideas from.
all in all i would recommend the band for those who like their sound 'raw', and THE 101ers give you a perfect connection to its younger cousin punk rock, in fact they sound like an early CLASH in many places yet still have a good exciting sound of their own as well.
they are well worth looking up and you wont be disappointed (just ignore Joe strummers big huggy bear hairdo on the back of the first LP), put the record on, just shut your eyes and you could almost hear good quality early CLASH demos! but thats not fair to the rest of the band who were also brilliant live and could hold their own musically on record as well.
the full catalogue of their songs can be found on the 'Andalusia' label which has been resurrected for the release of the 101ers records, so go out an get some stuff by them it will be worth the money i promise.
