The youngest punk's on the block (well, young 30 years ago) EATER are playing a low key gig , i don't know if this is one of those 'occasional' gigs or if the band have got back together again as a band proper (i wonder if that now they probally have wives and kids they will play their song 'get raped'?) and is being held at the former AKLAM HALL, the venue famous for lashings of skinhead violence, The venue has now though gone through some name changes and is now called 'THE PARLIAMENT CLUB @THE INN ON THE GREEN' Thorpe close w10. it was also more aptly called 'SUBTERANIA' once seeing as it is under the westway up a dingy pissy smelling alley/road on the side of an estate. Support for the night will be from THE FALLEN LEAVES and DEADLY LONG LEGS (who i hope are as good as their name). or if LESS THAN JAKE are the type to launch your boat you could go and catch them tonight at THE ASTORIA 2 (what not at no1?).
if you can be bothered with going out on a Sunday then i am told that the GRISWALDS are worth a look, they are playing along with THE MORONS (crazy name...), THE ATOMS, and THE CHERRY BOMBERS at the 12 BAR CLUB in Denmark street (home to the small but great 'London calling' club night).
But I'm sure by Wednesday EATER will be a distant memory as the 'kiss of punk', the only the other 'grandad' band of note playing this week, THE MISFITS, are playing the first of two nights at THE ELECTRIC BALLROOM, i hear that MR DANZIG is back with them (he could quite well of left again by now though to pursue his 'metal' career once more) and they have with them THE BRIEFS and SPIT LIKE ME.
Monday sees a band called THE LOCUST playing what is described as 'experimental punk music', erm yeah, I'll see you there!
there is a couple of other gigs on Tuesday and Wednesday but as Ive never heard of them i wasn't going to mention them, Ive got enough egg on my face as it is, Ive got so much I'm starting to look like an infected burns victim (no offence to people with facial burns because i had a mate with bad face burns at school and the nasty kids used to say that if he sprayed his face silver he would look like R2 D2 without the face plate, cruel cruel kids!) but they are HELLO WEMBLEY on Tuesday at THE RHYTHM FACTORY, but the are described as 'a synthed up raw punk band' which always scares me, and Thursday has THE CUTOUTS and THE BLACK ALLEY SCREENS at the SOHO REVUE BAR which sounds like a sex shop, but you could always go and see GALLON DRUNK who are playing at MADAME JO JO'S in brewer street which is quite an apt street name for the bands venue. there is more but i don't want to list gigs by any more bands that are listed as punk bands just for the sake of it (nor do i even wish to mention by name the band who describe themselves as 'jazz punking metal'), to give the impression that it would be a gig worth attending could turn out to be a crime.
The list above is the reason i don't like listing bands unless i am 100% sure of them (like them or not) and to give space to bands Ive been told are OK i don't mind either, its the ones Ive only distantly heard the names of, i mean god knows what i could be recommending to you to go and see (i.e the jazz punking metal band or the synthed up lot), i feel safer with bands who i have heard at least their one and only single by , if that is all they have of course. to put it bluntly i cant go to every gig and so i don't want to send you where i wouldn't go. int i nice to you!
