GOGOL BORDELLO 'gypsy punks'

So finally i got to see GOGOL BORDELLO the 'gypsy punk' band and i must say i was surprised, to be honest i expected another LEVELLERS type of sound from the band but i was wrong, the band who seem to be destined for a career playing in big corporate festival's were not that bad i found. although their sound was far from being as original as the clamour about them claims, they are the sort of band that sound good in the live open air arena, their sound was more than reminiscent of the TOFU LOVE FROGS who have been gigging all over for more years than i can remember.
the only real differences between the two bands is the amount of money the bands have behind them, it is obvious that GOGOL BORDELLO have the backing of moneyed people as can be heard by their (i think) over produced sound while the TOFU LOVE FROGS have a sound that is rougher and roarer and purveys the bands energy better, its funny that both bands come from traveller back rounds yet the new gypsy band has all the kit of a major rock act while the other have the look and feel of the 'patch and repair' life.
I'm not saying that you cant have a good time at a GOGOL BORDELLO gig (i may even go myself one day if given a free ticket or they play in a field) but for sheer energy and fun unpredictability i would say that THE TOFU LOVE FROGS win out every time, and their sound is 'rougher' which i like.
but as i said, GOGOL BORDELLO are not as bad as one might think, give'em a chance, although i can see the band leaving the punky sound behind as more and more money gets flashed in their faces, its the same old story.
