PUNK ON RADIO 4?

Radio 4 yesterday played a show about the history of Britain's oldest music paper the NME, although the show was supposed to be a 'history' of the mag/paper it glosses over the first years from a jazz and banjo paper and later its current 'indie' incarnation and very soon gets tucked into its most interesting years during the punk years of the 1970's of which the programme spends most of its time about.
And although the show is a 'nostalgic look back' to the 'punk years' that i personally hate, it does tell some really funny stories about that time and is honest about the ego's that were rampant among the staff at the time and how they manifested themselves.
Of course we are treated to the smug recollections of people such as PAUL MORLEY, CHARLES SHAAR MURRAY, and PARSONS/ BURCHILL, they are as i said, honest in they are all happy to discuss the ego battles the others were having and shy about their own, the same can be said for all those interviewed and who's voices were used in reference to the NME, so it all kinda equalled its self out.
All in all its worth checking out RADIO4's website where they keep all shows for listening to for a week after broadcast and checking it out because the antics do bring on a smile and for the older ones of you out there maybe a memory or two.
Another show that followed it that would be of interest to those 'into' ww2 is an interview with the last of the infamous MITFORD SISTERS (i don't remember her name) but it is funny listening to it how in denial she still is about what happened in Europe all of these years later. But if that stuff appeals to you then that programme can still be heard on RADIO 4's website for the next six days.
