Long have i heard it said that JOE STRUMMER and MICK JONES were the new LENNON and McCARTNEY, and i always thought that the BEATLES should be grateful for such a decent comparison.
Apart from both bands having "whooo" vocals on songs it got me wondering who would be their YOKO ONO?, well i had to look a bit further than THE CLASH for that and it wasn't very hard to come up with the name NANCY SPUNGEN and it was the SEX PISTOLS not THE CLASH who came to mind.
NANCY like YOKO split up the band's with whom they were shagging bass guitarist's, both women made a career out of shouting in public. where as YOKO did it on stage as part of her act, NANCY did it on stage as a backing singer for SID VICIOUS but was more often seen shouting her gob off where ever she was, and both women were happy to strip off their clothes in front of cameras, plus both women were considered moose's in the face area. and finally, both women lived off their men's money.
that is the best comparison with THE BEATLES and punk i can come up with, that and the fact that THE BEATLES used to come on stage with bog seats round their necks while they were still playing the German circuit just like some lame punk bands did in 1977-78.
