I hear that the SEX PISTOLS have jumped on to the (two years long) great punk '30th' anniversary bandwagon jamboree and are to play some shows again.
If they are anything like they were in FINDSBURY PARK then you wont see me there (unless i can blag a blag) because when i saw them in the park they sounded musically like the PISTOLS, but it was the singing that let it all down, LYDON/ROTTEN has taken up trying to sing in a kind of gurgling falsetto voice that wobbles its way through the PISTOLS lyrics, especially in lines that have words that need to be 'drawn out' such as "iiiiiiiii wanna beeee, anar-keeeey", his voice seriously wobbles in places such as that.
but what is worse than LYDON'S vocal 'skills' is the ticket price's. £42.50p plus booking each! and they are only playing at the BRIXTON ACADEMY (or what ever its called now) for 3 or 4 nights.
How can they justify ticket prices like that? and its not as if it is in some top swanky fuck off top venue, its the BRIXTON ACADEMY for god's sake, why charge such steep prices? its as if they don't want their rank and file fans to come, maybe they think they can price it out of the reach of most 'punks' and punk fans, (who would only just be boisterous drunk and noisy) but saying that, how many actual punk rockers will be going? i doubt there would be many, more likely it will be full of 'well-to-do' ex- fans who If they wanted to play a gig where the only people there will be the likes of London's usual out and about 'pop-stars' and 'd' list celebs then they should do it in private, but maybe it will be full of people who didn't get to the FINDSBURY PARK gig because of the 'ruffians' about and who have nice jobs. certainly fans on benefits (bad hips, deaf, eye cataracts, or who have kids, their fans are a bit old now) will have to save hard and long to be able to go, as will those on a low wage.
So have the SEX PISTOLS actually gone and turned away from their old fan base to attract the same people that LABOUR and THE TORIES are presently trying to attract for the upcoming election? the 'upper band' people are financially able to buy tickets, and they could go to work at 'the office' the next day with a new SEX PISTOLS t-shirt under their pink designer work shirt and tell all their plum mates what a wild and anarchic time they had at the "THEKTH PITHTOLTH" (if you say those words in a nicely spoken plums voice you will get it). to go and return with something it will only be the cost £42.50p a ticket plus £25 for a t-shirt and £3 for a pint of the nasty slop they serve there, well cheap! and that's not counting the taxi or LT fares home!
SWINDLE? its a con more like, £42.50p? bollocks to 'em.
