"EVER 'AD THE FEELIN' YOU BIN CHEATED YET AGAIN?"It had to happen, and the only thing i was wondering about was what tabloid would be the first to give away a 'free' SEX PISTOLS CD, and unsurprisingly it was the STAR ON SUNDAY.
Information about the recordings and timings of the tracks is so bollocked up it is stunning, the info regarding the songs picked has never been a secret or hard to find out and makes me wonder just how they could get it so badly wrong in places? the half page advertising puff for the CD inside the paper is jaw droppingly wrong, as is the CD'S cover.
Calling the CD 'SEX PISTOLS LIVE' is also so obviously not true that I'm surprised it was allowed to be used at all.
And as usual with STAR give away CD'S the 'free bonus tracks' are by non other than the musical stalker and hanger on MR STEWART DOUGDALE himself, who's music, like on the RAMONES and BLONDIE CD'S the STAR previously gave away, is longer and contains more tracks than the band who's CD it is actually supposed to be.
The covers info states that the CD was recorded live in 1976 by the late DAVE GOODMAN yet it contains not only studio recorded tracks (some from the SPUNK LP) but also has old SIDNEY VICIOUS himself singing the single version of 'c'mon everybody' from well after DAVEY 'G'S' time. And poor old matlock hardly gets a look-in despite playing on many of the tracks.
But its the twaddle that's written inside the paper that is the real bollocks, and it is accompanied with a photo of an old JOHN LYDON looking like a scummy peasant in a black and white shell suit.
But as i said its the writing in the paper that is the real hoot, here is an example (the article is entitled 'stick em up its your free CD by the sex pistols -which only makes sense when you see that LYDON is pointing upwards in the photo accompanying the article') anyway, it says things like "the poster boys of punk rock are giving you both barrels in today's daily star Sunday". then there's "the songs we've got for you are ORIGINAL recordings. before they sold out and put them on their official and only album", and "after getting the EMI boot they returned to the studio with GOODMAN to give us their fantastic version of EDDIE COCHRAN'S 'c'mon everybody' and a song that sparked massive outrage at the time 'god save the queen'".
The mixed up rubbish goes on for much longer than Ive reprinted but if you haven't got it i suggest you rush to your local 'fags'n'mags emporium now or in the morning and try to get a copy because it is the most badly written SEX PISTOLS article Ive ever seen and well worth pinning to the fridge or toilet door to laugh at.
They even have 'pretty vacant' pegged as being released before the BILL GRUNDY interview its that bad, a must have!!
the track listing (for those interested) is PRETTY VACANT, ANARCHY IN THE UK, I WANNA BE ME, SUBMISSION, C'MON EVERYBODY, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, SATELLITE (then you get 8 not wanted DOUGDALE tracks, the maggot!)
I wonder how long it will be before someone tries to sell a copy on EBAY as a rare collectors item? not long i think, and some mug will buy it.
The CD'S saving grace is that the songs are all old recordings so that if you do get and play it you at least don't have to hear LYDON singing in his 'new' yodelling castrato style!
P.S, Ive just been listening to it and the DOUGDALE tracks came on and i was assaulted by a full on bloody 1970's disco track! be careful!
