CRIMINAL RECORD N5 -THE OUTCASTS

"HEY BABY"
THE OUTCASTS -ANGEL FACE 7'
You cant help be suspicious that this single is going to be duff just by its cover, it had the singer in a kind of 'pouting macho pose with the singles title in one corner in chocolate box writing. (although the record name has been obscured by the mans name in this photo of the cover)
The single was originally recorded by THE GLITTER BAND (post 'uncle GARY') and was the bands biggest hit with out 'the man who put the bang in gang' and was originally released about 1975, and as songs go, was not a bad record by glam standards (it was almost as good as a SWEET song when they were in their prime).
The version recorded by THE OUTCASTS had been recorded almost note for note, the band (like others) going down the 'glam' route, the shite-ness of the record is a bit of a suprise as once they were considered the best band in ulster apart from SLF yet this song would make you think just the opposite, it makes you wonder why they bothered, they have added nothing new to the song and just copy the original, and even then its not as good as the original and compaired to the promise of the bands earlier songs it is just a let down.
Maybe it was an attempt to move the band away from the harder bands that were starting to come through at the time, yet i don't see how doing a little remembered song by an OK band 25 years ago was the best of plans, the single just sounds like an out of time song.
Sorry chaps but this record is just criminal, and i haven't even mentioned your 12inch e.p called 'seven deadly sins' yet, now that was a bad record, maybe i will write about that in the future, its even more criminal than this single.
