The hips were cracking and the arthritis pain was racking but the ageing LED ZEPPLIN and their equally old fans (plus some younger ones) were all 'going crazy' and had a groovy time of it as the band did their first proper gig since their 32 year old nappy wearing drummer died. (for the best i would imagine in the eyes of the roadie who was forced by the drummer, JOHN 'BONZO' BONHAM to swap his nice dry clothes for 'BONZO'S' piss soaked ones before being made to sit in 'bonzo's' urine sodden seat for the duration of a trans Atlantic flight, -aah, now that's hippie love for you!). Anyway by all accounts the band sounded better now than they ever did, being sober may of helped! that and an extra 25 years to practice on their instruments.
But what made me laugh is just how exact people were in their memories of the last time they saw them play, one fan said that they were better than when she last saw them at earls court in 1975 or 1976, now if she cant even remember what year she saw them then how can she be so sure regarding the bands performance? There was also many others who were interviewed who were comparing them to gigs they saw over thirty years ago -does every LED ZEPPLIN fan have a photographic memory? more likely they were just happy to be at the Jurassic park concert arena and wanted to show off the fact that they had seen them before, an unprovable assertion in my eyes, and not unlike all the thousands of people who claim to have attended the first SEX PISTOLS concert in Manchester.
And one happy fan who was interviewed after the concert was saying how JASON the son of BONZO who did the drumming in his dads place "is the hardest working drummer in rock today, yeah!" (the man was also making that 'metal devil' hand sign to the camera despite clearly being of 'dad' age), now excuse me but the son of BONZO has played on stage with PAGE and PLANT what three times?, I'm sure he has his own band because he is a good drummer admittedly, but the "hardest working"? hes a fucking millionaire for gods sake, his dads royalties means that the man doesn't have to rush to the gig straight from work covered in cement or brick dust, unlike the members of other bands, the reason he is so good is because he has never had to work, he has spent his life practising on the drums. lucky him, but i hardly think that makes him "the hardest working drummer in rock today".
And now the clamour is on to get the band touring, like an O.A.P'S bus trip but with druggie blues rock music. i just hope that the tabloids wont again be filling their first few pages with large photos and gushing tributes going on about 'the power of the band and how much they are enjoying themselves'. well who wouldn't enjoy themselves when they are getting paid what 'THE ZEP' are getting paid just for this one show? Imagine how much money they would get for a whole tour, they could buy an African country with it, or solve world hunger, but more likely it will just go on to the money heaps they already have and go unspent because they are still spending money they earned fifteen years ago. like ageing hippie versions of SCROOGE McDUCK sitting on his pile of gold coins except 'THE ZEP' would have Afghan wall hangings on their bank vaults.
The last word goes to WILL SELF who said on the day after the gig that "if I'd of had a ticket i would of deliberately shredded it just to upset an old hippies day", well said WILL.
P.S ZERO HOUR waited for a few days before posting this article because we wanted nothing to do with the slobbering circus that surrounded the band on gig day.
