"ERR POLY, CAN WE GET OUT OF THESE CRYOGENIC TUBES YET? I'M GETTING COLD"Its not often (ahem) that ZERO HOUR likes to advertise gigs by re-formed bands because it believes that there is no need, what with there being enough great bands out there now that are good enough for there to be no reason for the 'nostalgia' bands of yesteryear, a sad state of affairs indeed.
But once or twice a year a band comes along that reforms for the odd one off gig, like THE RUTS or the STEVE IGNORANT/CRASS gigs that are worth going to see, and one of those certain bands and gigs happens to be by none other than the brilliantly original X-RAY SPEX.
The band who were genuinely young back in the 1970's and who are still likely to be younger than some of the upcoming audience are playing a gig this September coming, a bit of an early warning you may think, well that's because the gig has just been officially publicised, yet there has already been many advanced orders for the tickets and they are selling like hot cakes despite the fact that the tickets have yet to be actually printed.
One of the reasons for this could be because the band are one of the few who haven't milked the nostalgia gravy train and played for anyone who has waved a cheque in their faces, and have only played a handful of gigs over the years with the POLY STYRENE line-up.
Personally i last saw then at brixton in (gulp) 1987 when they headlined a gig with SHAM69, CHELSEA and other 70's bands, and i must say that they were really good.
The only problem was that once they had played every song they had, they had only been on stage for half an hour or less and so had to play all their entire set again, i have to admit that i wasn't displeased because they seemed to be over in a flash and it was fine listening to the songs again because they were really on the ball musically that night and played a great gig.
So i recommend the upcoming gig and will be posting the complete details when i get them, ( i have to admit that thanks to a very kind friend i am the proud owner of a receipt for a ticket for the gig) and i am looking forward to going with gusto! if the last show was anything to go by then the next one will be a 'cracker' indeed.
