So i read with great delight that ARETHA FRANKLIN has got the right 'ump because BEYONCE went on stage at an award (an industry back slapping beano) ceromony and introduced TINA TURNER as 'the queen of soul'. "i am the queen of soul not tina" an ego filled ARETHA has been saying to anyone who will listen, and seemingly totally without a hint of irony or humour in her voice and attitude as well.
Now correct me if im wrong but being 'the queen of soul' isnt a real title or status and is in reality just a name? one that can and has been pinned to many soul singers over the years.
i cant believe that such a rich and groveled over star like ARETHA FRANKLIN would care about an introduction made for the simple reason of trying to help present a dramatic entrance for TURNER as she went on to the stage.
The whole thing smacks of desperation on ARETHA FRANKLINS part, after all TINA TURNER has had many more 'hits' than ARETHA has had over the last 25 years.
Pop stars are a font of amusement for me, long may their ego's hold sway over the parts of their brain's that control self respect.
P.S can you imagine SIOUXSIE SIOUX, TOYAH, PATTI SMITH or DEBBIE HARRY getting into a slanging match over who deserves the name 'hitgh preistess of punk' or the 'queen of punk'? whoever tried that one on would become a laughing stock, and rightly so.
