STARING AT THE RUDE......'BOIS' (please!)Well, I'm in two minds about this song. On one hand the band have made the best out of one of those songs that is quite hard to do a decent cover of, and it does have to be said that they did the best they could but its just as i said, and the song isn't an easy one what with it being one of those songs that are so tied in to the original bands sound that it is hard to record without sounding like it is just a re-tread. Putting the bands own stamp onto it couldn't of been easy but i think GALLOWS have managed to do it by virtue of the very different vocal styles between this version and the original. Saying that, personally i wouldn't buy this single, i don't know why, maybe its because Ive had almost 30 years of the song and am a bit jaded (and precious?...no, thinking about it, thats not why.) when it comes to a new version, i suppose it feels rather like watching the same episode of a favoured TV programme over again and then watching a version with new actors, theres no point.
That's not to say it isn't any good, i know a RUTS fan who likes the single and obviously I'm only one opinion, but like i said i wouldn't buy it.
I just don't think there is any need for a new version, after all its not like this is a rare lost gem from a forgotten band, the original is still played at gigs in between bands and still gets occasional (but steady) play on the radio.
well done to the band for having the yarbles to cover it, i just think there are other songs just as good that are crying out to be covered more than this song is.
My one real complaint (you may of got a hint above) is the re-spelling of the word 'boys' in the title to 'bois', now that bloody well makes me cringe- big time, THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THAT. YUK.
